The first documented live Cavaliers rode onto Virginia’s football field in 1947, when two students from the Student Independent Party club on horseback. The Cavalier on horseback returned periodically through the ‘60s and ‘70s, but finally became a permanent fixture in 1989, just a few years before the introduction of this logo in 1995.
